I HAD NO IDEA THESE GUYS COULD SWIM. Or to be honest, I kind of knew they could. I’ve seen moose swimming in Finland, to get from an island to another one, and deer wade into Salmon River in Idaho, so it shouldn’t surprise me that elks can swim too. What actually surprised me was how much they seemed to enjoy their afternoon swim. They would climb back to the shore and run straight back to the water, making laps and just splashing away, while others were watching the fun. Maybe they were itching from parasites or bug bites, maybe the unusually hot day was a bit much for them. Who knows. They were fun to watch.
